A journey up the Congo

Heart of Darkness Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Heart of Darkness is a dense, dark read, telling the story of a sailor’s journey up the Congo River. Conrad wrote it during the European race to dominate Africa, and the racial and cultural thought of the day figure prominently in the narrative. They are also questioned by the narrative.

I just read the story, not the lit crit essays in this edition. I will probably take a look at some of them.
